When thinking of stories to explore for this season of “Chosen Family”, a big queer experience I realized I didn’t know much about, was LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. I visited the Los Angeles LGBT Center in Hollywood for a tour of the Center & to meet with a group of young LGBTQ+ people who have experienced homelessness to hear their stories firsthand. I also got to meet Alexandra Grey, who before becoming a successful actress and singer, was homeless and got help from the Center.

Honestly I just feel AWFUL this happens to good people. Why does it matter SO much that being gay is how you should treat others? No one in the LGTBQ community deserves this. I have friends who are part of this community and they're my best friends. I don't care who they love, I just care about their personality. And I'm glad you did this video Tyler 💚

This is definitely an issue that needs to be talked about and brought to the attention of the public. So many people think "It's 2018, it's super easy to be gay!" And while it is getting better and better to be gay, there is a lot more homophobia still running rampant in this country than people are aware of.

i'm so touched to see the video that brings awareness to this particular topic.
as an lgbt+ person living my teenage years in russia it's been a real struggle to get around ever since my family found out (they are extremely homophobic and conservative and etc.) and threw me out so i had to live at my friend's house. even though i'm back now , it'll never be the same as i have to deal with everyday harassment and abuse, emotional and physical, from my dad and brother. i feel like i'll never feel happy in my life until i move out, and the thought of it makes me sick as i'm only 15 and have to wait about half a decade.
thank you a lot, tyler. your videos always brighten up my day and give me hope for the bright future.
    xx

Thank you so much for making this! A lot of people don’t know the real truth about homelessness in the LGBTQ+ youth community. So, so, SO glad that this series exists. Thank you! ❤️ Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Thanks you sooo much for bringing up this topic. I'm a lesbian young girl having to deal with people calling me names but i got through it and I now have so many people supporting me and a girlfriend who's just amazing. But like this made me feel so much better about frist being les and second me wanting to run away after my mom found out. But again like I said I got through it and I'm just like everyeles in my opinion.

Huge respect and admiration towards all the strong and brave youth. I can’t find the words to describe how beautiful this video is. This is a topic that only a few know about, and the fact that Tyler is using his platform to educate and spread awareness is exactly why I love him! From the bottom of my heart, much love and support to all who are displace and are trying to find a place to call home!

This was absolutely amazing to watch. Places like this should exist regardless of location. If they can build community centers and homeless shelters, then why can't a place for displaced LGBTQ+ youth exist everywhere? I'm outraged and heartbroken for those who experience homelessness and being cast out from their own families...the world could use more love and acceptance. So glad this series is back!

I didn’t have this when I got kicked out. I wasn’t even aware of my local resources like food pantries and health services. Furthermore, depression and rejection certainly cripples our ability to reach out and seek help or even consider this to even exist. I was luckily in my freshmen year and had pledged a fraternity who took me in, accepted me, and really supported me through my career. And I live in the outskirts of Miami, FL. -sigh-

So happy you did this! I volunteer at a health clinic in the kitchen and I get to serve the community every Wednesday. I see all kinds of people including LGBTQ and I absolutely love serving each Wednesday because I know I'm making a difference not just by serving food to them but cuz sometimes they need to vent and if I'm on my break, I always listen. :) I'm a ally and I'm proud to serve and support this amazing community ❤️

Thank you for bringing this topic to a large platform like your channel! I work for a LGBTQ youth serving organization that works with a large population of homeless youth in Phoenix, AZ. This is a nation wide problem and having a public figure like yourself addressing these issues and allowing people to not only learn but get involved in these conversations is amazing! Thank you for all your continued support ❤️🌈

Being from an itty bitty town, I never experienced places like this. My first sense of community came from being involved in my college’s GSA. I’m so thankful for the people that keep these organizations running, and feel more inspired to hurry up and get my degree so I can start making similar strides for our youth and community. 🌈 And get those pins when it’s payday heyyyy✨

I was in the same place a year ago. I am an ex- Mennonite. I lived in the Bible belt before I was out. When I came out my father showed me the door. I walked 15 to 20 miles in the cold. I fought to stay in a hospital they told me to go see some relative or a family who could help. I looked he dead in the face and told her " what family?" She told me I could stay a night. In the morning a social worker helped me get a cab ride to a drop in centre in the city. I walked in and told them I was referred here and they sat me down and we talked. I had no where to go or sleep for that night. After I came back of the room people were asking me what happened and I just told them. A guy approached me and told me I could crash on his floor. I fought for life from there on. I had to escort , I had to turn a dollar. Now I found a job thanks to the drop in centre . But it is far far away. Now I am saving up to move back get a another job and get my GED and maybe I can give back what I have taken . Maybe I can help change a kid who was in my shoes . So they can live a better life . Wish me luck!

Tyler, thank you so much for this series. Though as I write this I am only a few seconds into the video, I see and appreciate your passion about the community and people who hold intersections different from you. As a queer, black, nonbinary femme I can see you not only truly care, but you make a true effort to create change. THANK YOU. It's moving to see someone with your platform really utilizing it to bring more than awareness, more than change, but show different aspects on community and show how important it is to have a chosen family. Having my chosen family saved my life and I work everyday to vouch for the same thing. Our work may be different, yours with your amazing platform, and mine with my dreams, goals and community work, but we both work with the same heart and goal in mind: love and prosperity. Thank you. SO much love for you.

Hey Tyler this is crazy!I am so incredibly proud of you and so excited for this series. I’ve been following you since 2012, and now your here. I’m incredibly proud of you, you have no idea.Watching you grow more as a person over the last 6 years crazy to see and I remember your book release and your movie and tour, I have never met you (sadly) but just your tweets instagrams videos just is what gives me life!Come back to Ireland soon Tyler! We are missing our queen
Not only did you help me grow as a person, but you helped intimes of confusion and trouble, like the whole coming out experience and now I’m on an lgbt account @lgbtsupport____ on insta. If someone told me what impact Tyler would have in my life I would have subscribed earlier in my life. Even though subscribing before I’m 8 probably wouldn’t be best , no shade;) . Anyways , you have had such a positive impact in my life and I grew up where LGBT wasn’t talked about much (most supportive) and Tyler with out you I don’t thrill I would be the person I am. Thank you so much, I mean it thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I hope I will meet you soon, it would be so awesome anyways I wish you the best Ty!-love from a dedicated watcher , Erin ‪@erin‬.byrnex on instagram
